Doctors say that this works, but you also need to realise that the long term use of cortisone cause bone loss and scientists say that More frequent injections could cause injury to cartilage and bone; contribute to potential wasting of the soft tissues and muscle; and cause nerve damage, decreased resistance to infection, osteoporosis, weight gain, skin changes and cataracts. I would ask your doctor for an alternative drug. I have known people that needed these and regretted them daily. They had mood swings and ended up with bone loss that led to worse pain. Hope this helps!

Cortisone injects can relieve inflammation and pain, but those are symptoms and not problems. Cortisone can do nothing to treat or manage the actual problem. Further, repeated cortisone shots in any given area will destroy the soft tissue and the bone in that area.

So, a single cortisone shot can help a patient enough to begin managing a problem, but it can't offer any type of management itself or any type of a cure.

There are other prescription drugs that can help with neuropathic pain and there are surgeries than can help with a structural problem. Surgery, though, would be a last resort management tool.

If this is an ongoing problem and has been a problem for more than 6 months, your pain is chronic and you should ask for a referral to a pain clinic. You'll find better ways to help manage your problem there.

You probably have sciatica. Usu a problem w/disc in your back will cause the sciatica nerve to be pinched and pain will radiate down buttock and leg. I don't understand why you can't have an MRI which would show this. However, I do not understand the health system in the country you reside so I can't give an answer for that. Try to have the GP once again contact Radiologist and say that the pain is excrutiating and you are having problems w/walking, loss of feeling, weakness in leg. Tell your doctor this is what you feel. Even if you don't say you have numbness and tingling, weakness (if they make you lie to get help than do what's necessary) Perhaps this will help when it is reviewed and they will allow the MRI.

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Hi there,
Sciatica is a pain that results from irritation of one of sciatic nerves. This is a lower back pain that goes down to hip and then to both legs extending to feet and toes in some cases. Sciatica nerve is the largest nerve in our body. Running down the spine through the hip, sciatic nerve goes down to knee and ankle. Any damage or pressure on this nerve results in debilitating sciatica pain that needs thorough investigation of probable causes on the basis of symptoms to provide relief to the patient on a permanent basis.
