When you have a cold sore, is it better to hydrate it or to let it dry up? What can I do to make it disappear ASAP? Thanks <3

When you first feel it comming on or as a preventive if you get alot of them you can take L-lycine pills. Lycine is an amino acid and I'm not sure why or how it works, but it does. Most of my cold sores either don't come in, or if I've already got a blister, go away in 3 days. Abreva helps alot too. It seems to speed up the natural cycle of the cold sore to make it pop out, break and heal faster. If you just use abreva it takes about 5 days to heal.
If you ice a cold sore it will take the swelling down and make you look less like you got punched in the lip. If you get it when its in its tingle faze before it blisters, you can keep it from blistering by keeping it iced.
Carmex will keep it moist and keep it from hurting. Its good if you've got a sore thats a few days old and drying up and cracking.
I use campho phenique when I don't have the money to buy abreva. It speeds up the blistering and drying up process and is also a pain reliever. It costs about 3 bucks and one bottle will last you 10 years. Don't know if you'd want to keep it around for that long though LOL.
Blistex will dry out your lips. The white cream one will dry out a cold sore good if you only put it on the cold sore.
The best is L Lycine, ice and abreva. Good luck with your herps!

Just use Abreva! I agree that it is the best. It will actually dissolve the blister, which is most painful, within a day. It works best if you put it on right when you feel one popping up, but still works wonders if you put it on after the fact. I actually carry some in my purse in case I feel one coming on when I am not home--it doesn't get as big and goes away much faster.

Your doc can also give you a prescription for cold sores that you take orally, but I think you have to take some of them daily to prevent cold sores. You have to go in to the doc when the cold sore is active in order for them to prescribe it.

Is it a full blown cold sore? if not this trick works but must be done at the very start of the cold sore when you first feel the tingle of it coming on. don't laugh but I used to have them all the time and have not had one at all in years by using this trick. OK, sounds crazy but take your finger rub it behind your ear and get the waxy stuff behind your ear rub it on the spot that is tingling and you won't get the cold sore. Crazy but works.

Abreve is excellent to help healing. Keep it dry. 'Cold sores' are actually 'Herpes'...They are agravated by stress, sunlight, and usually re-appear in the same places. They usually improve in about 5 days with Abreve and/or Acyclovir pills.

dry it up..when I fel one coming on,y'know that tinglyness but nothins there...i dab toothpaste on it,let it dry, then brush my teeth or wash my face...the wet then dry/rubbing makes it worse so the toothpaste acts like a little helmet. Then I go get myself some abreva..its pricey but works better than carmex and smells better, too

Blistex is a medicated cream that keeps it moist and there is a chemical in it that kills the oral herpes virus on contact to allow it to heal and keep it from spreading.
