IF this is a breed of dog that normally has it's tail Docked and you decide to do that then IT should be done at 3 days OLD and no later then 5 days old * thats when WE do it at our clinic* IT can be done later BUT will cost more as most likely the puppies will have to be put under to do it at that time--Its easier on the puppies if done at a very young age.. VERY Important is to find a vet that has docked tails before esp of the breed you have--tail docks are done at different lengths for different breeds and you need a vet that knows what they are doing--DO Your research NOW before they are born.. GOOD luck

What kind of dog is it? Usually docking the tail is done at a very early age (2-4 days old) to avoid nerve damage of the tail. I should be done by a VET and not just anyone.

Talk to your Vet about this, to the best of my knowledge the procedure should be done very soon after birth, before the nervous systen starts to develope and the pain is minimal. Not all breeds have their tails docked and many countries prohibit the procedure unless there is a medical reason, in the U.S. this has not happened to my knowledge.

You must contact your vet for this information. You should only let the vet dock their tails. Some breeds of dogs only have their tails docked if they are going to be working , rotties have docked tails so they do not get caught in the carts that they might be pulling. So make sure you check with your vet and let he/she do the docking of the pups' tails

Dog tails are NOT bobbed, they are docked (If breeding you should know proepr terminology)....to answer your quaestion the puppies tails need to be docked by a licensed vet by the time they are 3 days old...no later this is very important.

My wife breeds mini Schnauzers and are vet docs there tails between 3 days and 7 days. That way it heals fast and no need for a local or putting them to sleep for surgery

My vet told me not to do it before they are three days old and not after five days. They can bleed a lot so I would recommend taking them to the vet to have them do it. I just didn't have the heart to do it. Let the vet deal with it. Hope that helps to have a time frame.

well if you are going to do it... do it immediately but i would strongly suggest not doing it at all! It isnt necessary. It's cruel and there is no point to it other than vanity.
