The bible is about one God who demands total obedience.. the New testament is more peaceful as it is about grace not a physical kingdom.

A great part of it is text written by the scribes of a primitive tribe which was constantly at war and fraught with internal strife. In other words, it reflects the culture of the writers.
If you step back a bit, even the god concocted therein resembles the ruthless, vain, and insecure tyrant one would expect to rule in those days - a slaughterer of the opposition and the disloyal, and extremely needy of praise and adulation.
Again, it is a book of its time.

Good vs. Evil and the fact that God was helping the Children of Israel by leading them to the land he had chosen for them and out of slavery in Egypt. Wars have often been chosen by God in the Bible. Even today Bush has claimed God has told him to strike here or there. Who are we to say it isnt true, and half the public dont even know because Congress told him that he had to stop talking about spiritual/biblical things in his addresses and speeches. The people in politics are ignorant to it all...........poor them.

Man is basically a selfish, self centered person. There was violence during biblical times just as there is violence today. Seems man never really learns anything from past mistakes. That is why history constantly repeats itself.

Because people had/have sin in their lives and continue to turn away from God. Nothing good can come from continual disobediance to God.
