Give her plenty of clear fluids (a glass an hour), paracetamol (not aspirin!) for fever and ibuprofen (with food!) for aches and pains. Keep her sat at up to aid breathing and avoid nausea. Dress her in natural fibre clothes to keep her cool. Foods rich in vitamin C and zinc are also helpful for getting over flu quicker. A spoonful of honey is good for sore throats as it soothes and has antibacterial properties. You can get menthol-eucalyptus oils for her to inhale that help clear the head. Steam is also good for that too, also helps with coughing.
As flu is a virus it can't be killed by antibiotics but some cleaning products target RNA virus types. Dispose of used tissues and make her cover her mouth when she coughs/sneezes to prevent infection of others and reinfection.
Never underestimate flu. It can be very nasty. If she is still ill into a third week, take her to a doctor. Also keep and eye on her temperature. If it gets very high (>39C), take her to hospital. Another thing to watch out for is a productive cough where the mucus is thick and greenish. You can get secondary chest infections with flu.

I really hope your little girl feels better soon. Take care.

There is a wonderful homeopathic remedy sold in health food stores called (are you ready for this?) Occillococinum. It comes in vials and is made up of tiny sweet pellets. My doctor told me you don't need to take a whole vial per dose, as stated on box. You can take 1/3 of the vial and it works just as well. It works really well at the first sign of the flu- really crappy feeling with body aches and head pain. There are other homeopathic flu remedies in health food stores that might help if you have the flu for 2 weeks already. But do try the Occ. as there are no side efffects and it is safe for children. Good luck.

Pour some lemon juice (fresh squeezed lemon) into a mug (or beaker) add a teaspoon of brown sugar (white sugar if thats all you have), add some grated ginger root (fresh) and a teaspoon of honey and let simmer for a few minutes! Stir and pass the liquid thru a tea strainer to remove the bits!

This is better made in a cafetierre and pressed!

It is warming and soothing and calming and full of Vit C and no artificial ingredients! Can have as many as they like and does not affect any other medicines they may need!

My son (10yrs) swears by it and now makes it on his own!

If it is really flu, please take the child to the doctor. If it's a cold, then after two weeks, with no sign of improvement, please take the child to the doctor's too. Secondary infections may need attention.
