I don't think it's only woman that should not fart in public or outside the privacy of their homes . . . I think men shouldn't either. It's something that is best done in your bathroom or away from others, just common courtesy. The only acceptable farts are those coming from babies and children in public.

Because it doesn't fit in with the feminine ideal to make an unpleasant smell. Another example of society being stupid and cruel to women. Tiny feet, tiny waists, perfect skin blah blah blah.
My grandmother, a person who uses the word "dainty" in cold blood and made up a fictional "perfect" little girl to compare me to as a child, once told me a lady should never ask a man for the time as it makes her look like a prostitute. Go figure.
On the farting issue, I do usually retreat to an unoccupied space if possible, but out of consideration for others not because I'm a girl.

Yeah, I agree with the person that says When ya got to, ya got to.
It's not like there's much choice in the matter, it's not that ya want to.
I try to walk alittle further away, something like that.
I think women believe more that it's wrong to fart, cause it feels like it can really mess up being intimate with someone, like when you're just about to kiss!
But it's funny, it's doesn't. If you're hittin' it off great anyway, it just makes ya laugh. I guess if he loves you, he'll love everything about you, and even that, in a way.
I like GasX, with simethecone. It lets you pass the gas without any odor involved! That's Great! Cause it gets rid of all the bloating, and just lets you enjoy you're morning, or afternoon, whatever.
And it's got very little side effects, in most cases, absolutely none! Love it with my morning coffee, so I can relax with the coffee and the computer before I start my day.
And it helps ya go alittle easier.

It's not "wrong" just kind of unpleasant. Especially if you grow up with a herd of elder brothers who think it's funny to do it as noisily as possible, even lifting one leg before they let fly! The noise is embarassing to some, and the smell certainly is something we can do with out...pure sewage.
The embarassment is often caused by the reactions of others, especially when they yell, laugh or say something sarcastic.

well I dont think it very civilised...If everything was OK to do in public, then people would start to fart, burp, piss and poo wherever and whenever ...cos when you have to then you have to...
I think that both men and women should refrain from doing it in public. It is not a big deal as you say, but it is a smelly deal, not aesthetically pleasing.
My dog farts when he is scared of fireworks, I dont mind that as he doesn't know what is on or not, but if someone from my work or family let it rip whenever and wherever, especially in my presence, then I would be disgusted.

I don't understand it either. Farting is just a normal bodily function, we all do it. There is nothing wrong about it nor nothing to be embarrassed about!
Women should just let it rip and come on over my way anytime ;-)

I don't know-it's acceptable for men to let rip,but God forbid a woman should ever do it!! Back in the 'olden times' in the deep south,if a woman was having a particularly 'windy day',she was advised to retire to her chambers,as she was 'suffering from the vapours'!
Depending on the company,I just let it go-but I will NEVER be a match for my boyfriend!!

It's not 'wrong', just awkward and embarrasing.
No particular reason why it should be though it's an everyday bodily function, like taking a leak. it's got to be a good thing that you're not bothered about it.

Because it's discusting to do in public where you share the stench... It shows a lack of self respect for yourself as a woman as we are supposed to be the more intelligent sex in the human species.
At home however... Feel free to blow yourself around the room! As long as we don't have to smell it. That's fine!
