What do you think about these verses...

And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.
Leviticus 11:7-8

A similar prohibition is also found in the Qur'an:

He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of God.
Surat-ul Baqara (2):173

We understand that since the flesh of swine is strongly forbidden in Islam, Muslims regard the eating of pork as an extremely unholy act -- an abomination before God. For this reason, they consider it an outrageous contradiction for people, who claim to be followers of the holy prophet Jesus, to eat pork.

It is very important to understand the nature of the Mosaic Law and its specific purpose for the Children of Israel. The Law of the Old Testament consisted of both the moral law and the civil law. The moral law dealt with the great ethics of life. Its purpose was to set apart the chosen people of Israel from all other nations on the basis of inner holiness with regard to honor for both God and man. This great moral law was to uplift the Children of Israel to a much higher standard of holiness and to serve as a model for all people of all generations. For example, the Ten Commandments are a code of moral law that pertain to man's duties to God and fellowman. They are laws unaffected by changes in the environment, and thus themselves remain unchanged.

The civil law was different. It consisted of rules and regulations that pertained to everyday living; and these rules were influenced by both environment and customs of neighboring pagan communities. Such laws dealt with issues of cleanliness, food, health, clothing, and religious ritual. The purpose of these laws was to set apart the Children of Israel from all other nations on the basis of outer holiness. They were to remain separate and distinct, and were to be distinguished in the eyes of the rest of the world for serving the one true God, and refusing to adopt the practices and superstitions of idolatrous worship that surrounded them.

Among these civil laws was the rule that forbade the eating of pig meat. It was a common practice among neighboring pagan tribes to offer a pig as a sacred sacrifice to their idols. Furthermore, in that time and in that part of the world, the pig was a very filthy animal that fed on dead meat and garbage. As a result, eating pork caused the spread of terrible diseases that affected the whole community.

The Children of Israel were to keep themselves completely separate from such pagan influence and filth

Also...
Jesus saw this human corruption of the civil law and took appropriate action according to the authority God had given him. He declared all food clean for the purpose of removing such hypocrisy and returning the emphasis of true holiness to the heart. As a result, for the followers of Jesus, all food was declared lawful. Even the Qur'an quotes Jesus as saying:

(I have come to you), to attest the Law which was before me, and to make lawful to you part of what was (before) forbidden to you...
Surat-u Ali Imran (3):50

From the New Testament, we read about the teaching of Jesus on holiness:

"Are you so dull?" he (Jesus) asked, "Don't you see that nothing that enters a man from the outside can make him unclean? For it doesn't go into his heart but into his stomach, and then out of his body." (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods "clean.") He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' For from within, out of men's hearts come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean'."
Mark 7:18-23

Well they both basically say don't eat pig It was widely known back when these books were written that pig could be harmful however at the time we didn't have the knowledge to know why. So both say don't eat it difference is Christians chose to see it as a "mistake; if that is how you would put it like we know pig isn't harmful anymore we know why there were problems back then so we can eat pig now. And the Muslims decisded that no matter what they must follow it because it is written in the Quran and thats about it

The text mentioned in Leviticus is part of the law of Moses that was done away when Jesus died on the cross; as such it is not in force for Christians now.
Christians are allowed to 'eat pork, lobster, crab' etc, per Acts 10 where the Lord told Peter to kill and eat; to consider nothing God made to be unclean (Acts 10:14).
As for the Quran, I will let Muslims answer for that part presently.

The question should have read, "muslims and jews...."

As for "christians", they follow the "imag"ined three-headed pagan "catholic" god, one head of which they gave the "imag"ined name of "jesus christ" ;-(

Those "gentiles" who are disciples of The Messiah, have been delivered from the curse of the "law". The "law" was given because the "jews" were a "gainsaying and disobedient people" ;-( and today the "muslims" and "christians" are no different than the "jews" ;-( they are all religious systems that are of this wicked world ;-(

and religious systems of this world, all alike they are,
for they have fought, killed and died both near and far ;-(

and then once a week, or multiple times a day they may pray,
yet, as hypocrites they begin each new day ;-(

days that are filled with deceit, delusion and lies,
for in a religious system Truth can not abide ;-(

and so the fruit of death is born of their religious ways,
because life is but a pawn in the wicked game they play ;-(

yet, while there is breath(spirit) there is hope!

for Miracles do happen!

hope is there would be those who experience The Miracle that is "receiving a love of TheTruth" for they will have naught to do with the "strong delusion" that is the religious systems of this wicked world.......

peace, in spite of the dis-ease(no-peace) that is of this wicked world, for "the WHOLE world is under the control of the evil one".......

There's legitimate medical reasons for this, such as the fact of what happens when you eat pork that wasn't cooked enough. Look at the biblical ban on shellfish. Shellfish are bottom feeders, they eat crud from the bottom of the sea, and a lot of people are deathly alergic to shell fish. Back when the bible was written, these things weren't known, yet He told us what not to eat to try to keep us healthy.

Christians ignore this because Paul fought for the rights of gentiles to keep eating whatever it was they were use to, which included pork and shellfish, that what we ate couldn't save us, which it can't. On the other hand, is certainly makes sense, especially in biblical times when there was no refrigeration and food went bad very quickly.

Don't get me wrong, crab legs are my all time favorite food, but being my favorite food certainly doesn't mean I'm following Levitican law when I eat it. Luckily for me, I'm not Jewish and don't follow Levitican food laws.

Have to agree with the first answerer.

Pork is unclean for consumption.

Research has shown that porks do not get rid of urine in their blood.

And they dont have necks.

For an animal to be fully clean to eat, you have to slaughter it by cutting through the veins in the throat and letting the blood empty out completely.

You cant do that with pigs.
