Boil to cook and remove most of the fat. Submerge the bird in a pot of water and cover. Boil for an hour (more if frozen or large). It's done when it falls apart with a fork. Cool and then strip the bird to the bone. Discard the bones and skin and you should be left with all the meat in a bowl. At this point you can use a fork and further shred the chicken to your liking. By the way. If you boil the water in the pot further (reduce) to about half the volume you can refrigerate it to remove the solidified fats at the top ans you will have your own chicken broth starter.

To shred chicken, use two forks and insert the prongs, back sides facing each other, into the center of a portion of meat. Pull the forks gently away from each other, causing the meat to break into thin strips. Continue the process until the entire piece has been pulled apart.

Shredding in cooking terminology means to cook the chicken first and then to rip it apart by hand along the muscle fibers. This creates long, thin strips of chicken as opposed to chunks (cutting it across the muscle fibers).

It's not something you do except by hand.

two ways

first is raw shredding, more commonly referred to as mincing, skin and debone the chicken then chop it until fine or run it through a mincer or blender until desired texture is achieved, this method is used to prepare chicken for sausages, patties, nuggets, pies and coulis etc

second
cooked chicken, whole or pieces, no matter how cooked, is either cut or literally ripped or shredded into pieces of a desired size, this method yields chicken usually used for salads, chicken rolls, pies and bakes with smaller pieces or may be served as is

I noticed your additional, I assume your looking to do it raw, if chicken peices, remove skin by cutting it and then pulling it off with you hands, then cutt meat away from bone with shap knife, you should now have boned chicken meat, using a sharp knife cut the chicken meat long ways to desired sized slices if you require thin strips lay the cut chicken slices down and cut into strips

When your chicken is cooked you use 2 forks and pull it apart. It'll come apart in pieces kinda like strips...you just keep pulling it all apart until it looks the way you want it. Good luck!!

I normally shred chicken with my fingers. First I boil the chicken, and then i shred the chicken along its meat 'grains'. hope that helps.

boil it until fully cooked and use boneless, skinless chicken

then, take a fork and start scraping it....keep scraping and scraping....it will easily come off in shreds.

i discovered this on my own one time when i elected to make mexican tortilla soup. i am still a novice. but this will work, trust me! happy cooking.

Boil in water, once its cooked you can take a whisk and just beat the crap out of it and it will apart nicely. I recommend thigh meat. Breast meat takes more work.
