Can anyone help please?
I have joined Genes Reunited to trace my family tree I have paid the membership. But when I try to serch any records it is asking me to buy credits. I thought that when I became a member it was all free, or am I wrong?

I have been a member of Genes Reunited for around 6 mths
You still need to buy credits for records.
I have found http://www.ancestry.co.uk to be much better for searching records also Free BMD is a good one & the Church of the Latter day Saints is great do a search for LDS

there are only so many things you can do on Genes. If you want to search the national BMD records, as I assume you are doing, it's a separate organisation and you will have to pay. The good thing about Genes is being able to contact people who are also looking for the same ancestors, that's what makes it worth while. But it doesn't give you free access to all the records you will need.

No, the records are a seperate thing. The free bit is being able to contact other people who are researching the same ancestors as you. Try typing in the names of people you are researching to see if there is anyone else. Also create your own tree on there as the computer programme they use automatically looks for matches for you and notifies you of any every 2 weeks.

If you are a paid member like myself it allows you to start a tree and search for relatives from other members trees, but if you want to search records such as census records you have to pay extra. Hope this helps.
Genes is an excellent site.

You're wrong. You have to pay for everything these days. What I'd do is I would set up my own website for free and trace everyone through that via advertising on Google etc.
