My sister has always wanted to go to Canada so we are all going this year but cannot make up our minds. I would like to see Niagara falls but she wants more scenery. We will have a car so getting around won't be a problem.

Easy answer, Vancouver is the by far the better choice for scenery! The city is much closer to nature, you can drive from the heart of Downtown (Robson Street) to the north shore mountains (Grouse Mt, Seymour Mt, or Cypress Mt) withing 1/2 an hour! If you're into sking you could do all three! Then there's Whistler, a world class ski resort within 3 hours drive from Vancouver. Then there's Squamish for world class climbing or hiking. There's also Vancouver Island, a short 1.5 hour ferry ride from Vancouver withTofino (Pacific Rim National Park) and the captial city of BC, Victoria.

Toronto is more like London, It'll take hours just to get out of the city and out to nature.

TORONTO !
Then you can see Niagara Falls !

***The Weather in Vancouver During The Current And Recent Months Has Been Totally Atrocious !!!***

Vancouver is a mess now. The scenery is storm damage. Even the great "Capilano Bridge" had problems. They are recovering from massive rain storms, fierce winds that have blown down hundreds of giant trees, (trees have even fallen on joggers and cars as they were going by), mud slides into the city's (drinking-) water reservoirs, and unusual snowstorms too. The famous Stanley Park lost a lot of trees and there are broken trees and branches... It is currently not the best place to go. Toronto has been having mild weather, which is really great for cars, buses, transit, and pedestrians. Toronto is a super city ! There is so much to see and do, and it has great conditions for driving too.

Vancouver, definitely. More scenery there. I think there is more to see in Vancouver and surrounding areas. Grouse Mountain offers spectacular views of Vancouver city. North and West Vancouver are beautiful. You can travel northwest via Lighthouse Park to Horseshoe Bay, up to Whistler. There's a waterfall (nothing like Niagara) on route and beautiful lakes. Another worthwhile journey is a ferry journey to Vancouver Island to visit Victoria.

Sorry this is a bit of a dizzy answer,

however...... i was watching a holiday programme
and it was saying, about one of these destination, (can't remember which one) that you could be on a sandy beach, canoe a beautiful river, do great shopping and go skiing, all within 24 hours if you so wished. The question is which destination. Process of illumination I guess. Sounded fantastic!*

I guess what i am trying to say is you can experience all scenarios and activities, all in the same place.

Tough question, both cities are beautiful. I think there might be a little more to see in Toronto.
