You need to get a second opinion immediately. "Coffee grounds" in the stool can be a result of bleeding internally. It can also be the result of undigested food. You really need to have her checked out immediately though as internal bleeding can be life threatening.
Look into Chron's Disease and Celiac Disease. You can do a google search for both. See if her symptoms match up to either of those. There's also an excellent symptom checker at the Mayo Clinic's website. You could try that. For more information on Celiac Disease, visit www.celiac.com and www.glutenfreeforum.com.
Again, please get her to a doctor for a second opinion as soon as you can. Even the emergency room or a general practitioner. It sounds as though your pediatrician has washed his hands of this and that's NOT productive.

I have been in pediatrics for 6 years now and have never heard of stool looking like coffee grounds. However I do know that if your daughter has not gone to a GI specialist she needs to go now!! You need to call your current pediatrician and ask them about this and not rely on other peoples opinions. This is your child you are dealing with not an object. You sound like a very strong mommy dont let your ped tell you no you cant go to a GI put your foot down or change DRs...... copsgrl07@yahoo.com

Well, super nanny has some good technigues. If you do not beleive in spanking, then you will have to work with what you have. It does not matter the method of discipline you use, what matters is the consistancy, and the language and how you talk when you discipline her. A child learns snappy combacks and bossy from other people, whether it be you, a teacher, a sibling, or the TV. This does not make you a bad parent, it just lets you know that she picks up on these things and use them to her advantage. When you discipline, and you are going to have to start with back talking, you need to make sure you have a firm but low tone in your voice. You need to be at Eye level with her, and you need to make sure you tell her what she is doing wrong. Then you need to put her in the nauty corner, if she leaves are snaps at you her time out starts over again. If she is hitting kicking that sort of thing no matter what she does. Each and every time she misbehaves in an unexceptable manner this is the way this needs to be done. After time out make her apologizes nicely, if she does not she needs to sit there longer, if she does punishment is over. Reward good behavior with something small through the week. Do not give big fancy rewards so that she expects those everytime. I was having a very hard time with my son, who has a mild form of Autism. I thought man I a cannot get him under control. I recorded myself all day one day, and was surprised at what came out of my mouth, and I am sure that you say things in frustration as well. I first had to work on my tone, my way of thinking, which I can and am a person who likes to be funny and sarcastic. To have an Autistic child who thinks literal, that is not a good combination. My son had become a Holy Terror and nobody wanted him around. I do suggest watching an episode of super nanny, her technigue is about the same with everyone, just the families and situations are all unigue, even when she did a house with three autistic children she used the same technigues, but she called in for help because she and the parents could only work on one child at a time. I hope this helps, if you are still having problems, you may need to seek out the help of a theropist, because the problem may be deeper than just a simple child out of control. My son was unigue and it took longer and I had to tweek the edges a bit and do some of my on things. Oh and grounding for like a week would not work with a child who is only six they forget, but if you take something away for a couple hours or a day, and you consistantly do that, then it will work. Another idea would be to take all that belongs to her and have her earn it back, but that is a last resort, we did that one time when my son was going to school and choking his teacher, it worked. By the way, he is only six going to be seven in a couple of days. I really do hope this helps. Good luck.

Seek another opinion, from another Dr. that treats children. If she has IBS there are OTC treatments. Look at Wal Mart. Mostly they contain Lactobacilus, therefore for a child that age it would be best to give yogurt, with active cultures 3 times a day, or as much as she is able to take , also digestive enzymes are good for treating digestive problems. Pineapple is one and she can try the fruit Her diet should be a healty one for a child of 6 yrs. Try Yahoo search engine on both IBS and Digestive Enzymes, and Digestive problems. Perhaps another Doctors opinion will get better results. We hope she will get well soon.

If this has been going on for the past year its time to see another physician.....perhaps a pediatrician or gastroenterologist...while they are not black as you say, coffee ground color is not a good sign. Has she lost weight? Not gaining any weight? Sometimes the only way you can tell if there is blood in a stool is for a test they do on the stool itself to detect it.
This is a problem for a specialist....call and make her an appt,
Good Luck

I don't have a specific answer for you but I know that my nephew had bad problems with this and I would suggest that you find a doctor that will take it more seriously than the one that you have does.
My nephew took different things like mineral oil to loosen his stool...which I really don't know all the details of what he took and what was prescribed, but I do know that he is doing better now.
Be persistent with your pediatrician....if you don't get answers that you want press on until you find a doctor that will help.

The appearance of these "coffee ground like" stools are an indicator of bleeding that occurs higher in the digestive system. When this happens, the stools that you are seeing have the appearance of a "coffee ground" stool (you are actually seeing blood)

I would get her to the Dr now. Not the same Dr that you have been seeing either. Sounds like he has no idea what he is talking about.
