why do i need to study about how to manage the environment when i am not going to live here forever?

The only reason is to ensure a better future for yourself and your children.

A lot of "environmental management" is simple a pointless waste of time and energy for P.C. reasons .. but there is a lot of good sense in it as well.

You just have to sort out what's really worth doing (i.e. will make a difference) from what's a waste of time.
