Did it start suddenly? What sort of discharge-- watery, thick, discolored, white, green?

It could be an allergic reaction to dust if it started suddenly and is watery. It could also be any number of viruses or other infections: distempter, panleukemia, etc. One of my cats has a chronic upper respiratory problem due to a viral infection.

Bottom line: check with a vet if it doesn't stop soon.

The other persons answer is correct. Also, cats can be allergic to certain things the same way humans can. Check around your house: have you bought/brought in anything new to your home around the same time the sneezing began? Or any new plants or flowers? How clean is your home as far as dust is concerned? That can also have an effect. Most likely though, it's an upper respiratory infection. Although it COULD go away on its own, these infections can also prove extremely dangerous, and even fatal, to some cats. Make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible. If you have found any new items in your home that you suspect could be contributing to the cats sneezing, remove it/them immediately, and still call your vet.

Often a sneezing cat is exhibiting signs of the infamous "Feline Upper Respiratory Disease Complex". It's basically a cat cold that is very HIGHLY contagious and is seen most commonly in grouped-housed cats, like in a shelter or a pet store. If your cat is close to adult, chances are the virus will eventually clear from his/her system and signs will go away. If he/she gets very sick, like not eating, sleeping all the time, and very crusty nose and/or eyes, he/she needs medication. Antibiotics will help with secondary bacterial infection, and L-lysine paste helps to slow reproduction of the virus. If the eyes get infected, they need ointment, too. Try vapourizing the kitty; take him/her into the bathroom when you have a shower, or use a child's vapourizer with plain water in it. The moist air helps to break up mucous and makes is easier to clear from the cat's upper respiratory tract. If you are at all worried, go to a vet. Sometimes prescription meds are the only thing that will work.

It could be allergies, or it could be that your kitty is sick- such as with distemper. Take him to the vet to find out. If it's the latter, you could be saving his life!

Good luck!
