Ah yes (sigh)
it simply became obsolete because the American one was felt to lie better on the
turf and therefore give a better quality game.
the US ball does not fly as far as those little fellas used to tho!!!
ABOUT 30 YARDS EXTRA SOMETIMES!!!!
I think i still got a small one somewhere for posterity!

There is a U.S. rule in place stating that a ball can be larger, but not smaller than 1.68". Since smaller flies further, nobody goes bigger.

English,humm.Why would you say (English golf ball) The origins of the game are not English so why would the ball be English.

Disregarding Hibee, who's wrong, a few years ago, (I don't remember exactly which year) the R&A and the USGA agreed to one size golf ball and it was the larger, US size.

I would have though you'd be grateful for larger golf balls, as they are easier to find in the rough!
According to the Yanks, they're balls have always been bigger!
