an alcoholic had a dependancy on alcohol and needs it to function. A drunk is like all the people you see staggering around outside the bar at 2 a.m. they are just over indulgent people.

An alcoholic is someone who tends to drink all the time or most of the time that person likes to hide his/her drinking and will lie to you bout how many he/she had or has had . They will start not to drink in front of you and may get violent or abusive in any way with someone. I could go on but i think you have the idea.
