of course it would be a ballpark estimate but are there any ways to figure it ou myself?

you can go online and do the turbo tax, fill it all out and just dont finish it. thats usually what i do. we usually get more than what that says though

I don't know how complicated your tax situation is, so that is a hard question to answer. If you just have wages, and don't own a home/itemize your deductions, you should be able to pick up a 1040A booklet at the library. Just add up your wages and federal withholding totals, subtract your exemptions(number of people you support including yourself), your standard deduction and get taxable income. Look that up on the tax charts in the booklet. Compare that amount of tax to the amount you had withheld and the difference is the refund. But if your situation is much more complicated than that it depends on your own abilities.

A program called taxact (taxact.com) allows you to download a trail version of their program which you could use for this purpose. You should be careful as I have found some of these programs to be less than accurate.
