The priest conducting the funeral will give you a book suggesting some suitable readings and hymns. At my brothers funeral last year, I did a reading from the Thesalonians, and it was very moving. We are catholics so are used to the readings, hymns etc, but all of the non-catholics present commented on how touched they were with a catholic ceremony.

I hope it goes as well as a funeral can.
