try to do it yourself in your sparetime (unless they are antique) you would be surprised how easy and rewarding it is to know you did something like on your own at a fraction of the cost.....Ok below is a link I found for ya it's a lot to read but looks as if it should be fairly simple once you get started

Can you afford time? Take steel wool and then while u r watching TV simply sand one table at a time this labor intensive but relatively inexpensive, Once each table is nicely smooth and bare of paint and varnish simply get a quart of min-wax stain in color u want and carefully following directions stain the tables. Do together so color is consistent. when dry apply several coats of wax and tables are refinished. time line depending on time per day sanding about 2 months.

Not all wood tables are suitable for refinishing. It depends on whether they are solid wood or pressed board type products. If they are not solid wood, then do something simple like paint the top a single color.....black works well with many decors.

Buy and hem the edges on some cheap 1-3 dollar a yard fabric, and make small tablecloths. Total out of pocket cost is about 10 dollars including the rental of a sewing machine.

get some instant coffee and add alittle water to it so it is like a paste and a cloth to work it into the wood. leaves a real nice finish.

You could cover them with a table cloth and add more to it to not focus on the broken part.
