I'm an engineer at age 48...

I've read a lot lately about keeping your brain healthy, and health in general. The other answers are very good. I've learned that you need at least 7 hours of sleep for you memories to get converted to long term.

Eat a good healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and avoid sugar, white flour foods, and limit meat and fat.

Get exercise and relax. Avoid TV and computer games.

Learn to sit quietly and think of nothing and not be bored. I've just learned that recently. Breath slowly and deeply for 10 minutes or more a day. I'm now doing stretching and breathing exercises for 1/2 hour every morning.

As a former engineering student I always had trouble concentrating. My mother used to tell me to "concentrate harder." Over the years I have come to the conclusion that concentration is a particular ability you have or you don't have. I have a son who cannot concentrate and I have a daughter who has an excellent ability to concentrate. She is working on multiple PHD's. So my advice is to establish the best environment around you to think. In my case .. I found that going to a University Library typing room (they were soundproofed) and keeping the door shut worked wonders. Zero noise improved my concentration. You have to find what works best for you.

As for managing time - work on what is the most important first. Allow more time than you think it will take. As you get older you find that almost everything takes longer than you visualize. Remember, your professor just like your boss, tells you things. They don't say them for the fun of it...they are important. Work on their priorities .. not on yours. Good luck.

1.do meditation for 2 minutes before starting studies.
2.do not eat too much potatoes .little is OK ..
3.do not tell others or yourself that u have weak memory,instead tell others n yourself that u have a good memory..trust me it works
4.study at proper place n time everyday be it late nite or early morning . when ever u are comfortable.
5. don't force anything if its not going into your head .take a break for 10 minutes go for a small walk .
6.do not watch too much TV.. not more than an hour a day.
7.do little jogging or play outdoors for some time daily or at least weekends.
8.do not waste time in Internet.
