I don't feel that art needs to be understood by people but that it should make you ask questions or cause some form of emotion from it. As for myself I create a work of art simply because I feel the need to express a feeling of my own. I simply do it for myself and I find that in itself should be enough for others. After all it is for me.

Art is meant to be expression of one's self, and can be intrepreted in different ways. While the meaning the artist meant to put across may not be what other people think, it is how people view it.

Art doesn't always need to be understood by its meaning. People can enjoy the feel and technique of art, even if they don't know the true meaning of it.

I don't think it should be necessarily understood but mainly liked and appreciated. You don't have to know what it's all about, just have to connect with it at some level. Art affects people as a personal and individual thing like food, clothing, or other preferences. It cannot be measured.

understand what makes you tick and make good use of it, art just like yourself must be social, be in, get respect from those in need, be wise!

don't be a wise guy artist with an attitude that will be out of fashion!

enjoy the company of beautiful woman and give them meaning to exist around you, for you are art.

make others feel secure around you!

for they will buy your art

art must be understood by the leading art authority in your social group

i think the best art is art done by the artist to express their views, feelings, interpretations. but the best known art is the art that reflects history. all art has a purpose....but not necessarily the purpose that is the most obvious to the viewer.

what is art without a public ? art only "lives" if it's perceived by someone...commented, appreciated...

everyone understands a work of art in their own way, that's the beauty of it.

there is not only one meaning to a work of art, it's open to interpretation by everyone that comes in contact with it.

Why should it, it doesn't make it anymore valuable and besides most people who think they understand it, get it wrong.
