I do not understand why people are being so friggin nasty about people being on foodstamps. Not ALL people on foodstamps are trashy peice of crap mothers of five kids all from different dads. If you need them to help you get through, there is nothing wrong with that.
I believe you do have to be 18, unless you do have a child or children. I think it also depends on where you live. I know in different counties, and states, the guidelines are different. The best thing for you to do, is call your local assistance office and ask them. Fill out the application, and see what they say. It doesn't hurt to try. Good luck and don't listen to what the other jerks on here are saying. Being on foodstamps does NOT make you a peice of crap! and no, to all of you wondering, I USED to be on foodstamps when I was first starting out at college, just to put food on the table. I am not anymore because I got through the tough part of my life, thanks to the help that the government gave me, and now I work in a hospital making 80 grand a year! and yes I did it as a teen mother of two children! Not all people who have kids are crap either!

I think it's 18, or if you're on your own. If there are others living in your household, their income may be calculated in your grant. You may state, in writing, that you have a "separate budget from others in the house, and a separate part of the pantry/refrigerator in which you keep your food", thus confirming your financial independence from others in the house. If you don't volunteer this information, your clerk may go forward and process your data differently. Speak up.
Good luck.

no age requirement if you are a mother with at least one child and no employment then yes you are qualified, but just a person who just wants food stamps depends on why you want it either your income does not allow or you have a disconect notice of electric you have to have a reason, if you are just a person want food stamp just to want then no you would not be eligible..

my friend is on them. she has a minimum wage job, no kids, and love drugs. she trades drugs for food. which is kinda okay since the government give $400 a month in foodstamps to one tiny person.
