Fruits and vegetables that are heavily pigmented (purples, oranges, yellows, reds) contain antioxidants which rid your body of free radicals. So, simply eat plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin C is also an antioxidant and if your an athlete you might take a supplement once-in-a-while. I do after a long run. Do a search on "foods high in antioxidants" to find more example.

Vitamins C and E are important, take about 400 IUs of the latter and around 6000 mg of C (don't worry, you can take as much as you want in vitamin C until you reach 9000 mg, which is when you might have diarrhea, but 6000 mg won't do anything but reinforce your immune system and keep you energized and healthy). You also might want to take some selenium and fish oil (pills) that are also good in doing this.

OPC-3 is a powerful combination of plant derived bioflavonoids; know as Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC's). It is made from a combination of grape seed, pine bark and red wine extracts in addition to bilberry and citrus extracts. These OPC's are super effective free radical neutralizers. They are not limited to being strong antioxidants, they are also crucial in their role in supporting the circulatory system and strengthening the

WHAT ARE OPC'S?
Oligomeric proanthocyanidins ... OPC's ... a product commonly derived from one or more of a combination of grape seed extract red wine extract and/or pine bark extract. OPC's are very powerful bioflavonoids used as a natural food supplement. OPC’s are often referred to as Pycnogenols® which is the name given to these supplements by Jacques Masquelier, a University of Bordeaux, France professor and scientist. It is also trademarked by Horphag Overseas Limited of Geneva, Switzerland. OPC's have been shown to have powerful "free-radical" scavenging activity. They are non-toxic, bioavailable, water soluble bioflavonoids.

WHAT ARE BIOFLAVANOIDS?
Complex organic plant compounds found mostly in fruits, vegetables and certain tree barks. They are powerful antioxidants, "free-radical scavengers" and function as helpers to influence the body immune response to inflammation, allergy and infection. There are more than 20,000 different types of bioflavonoids, of which OPC's are considered the most potent antioxidants.

WHAT DOES BIOAVAILABLE MEAN?
Bioavailable means it is ready to be absorbed into the body.

WHAT ARE ANTIOXIDANTS?
Antioxidants are compounds that protect our cells and tissues from damaging interactions with oxygen free-radicals. Well known antioxidant nutrients include A, C, E, zinc, selenium and beta carotene. These nutrients bolster the action of our natural defense enzymes.

HOW POWERFUL ARE "OPC" ANTIOXIDANTS?
They are 20 times more powerful than vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than vitamin E. They are non-toxic and cross the blood-brain barrier.

ARE OLIGOMERIC PROANTHOCYANIDINS (OPC's) SAFE?
Absolutely! OPC's have been used for over 20 years throughout Europe. Extensive studies and laboratory testing reveal no evidence for human toxicity, allergic reactions, birth defects, or carcinogenicity.

WHAT ARE SOME SOURCES OF OPC'S?
Grape seed extract is a superior source of OPC, containing 92% active ingredients and pine bark contains 84% of the active OPC ingredient.*

CAN I TAKE VITAMINS WITH AN OPC SUPPLEMENT?
Yes! OPC works synergistically with vitamins. OPC potentiates vitamin C and regenerates vitamin E (spent in the fight against free-radicals).

HOW MANY COMMON AILMENTS HAVE OPC'S HELPED?
People have experienced recoveries, reversals, remission and relief from at least 60 different common ailments after taking OPC's.

ARE OPC SUPPLEMENTS A CURE FOR ANYTHING?
No! OPC's do not cure anything. What they do is help the body to neutralize the invasion of free-radicals. Your body has the amazing ability to heal itself, if it is functioning properly. When free-radicals are controlled, the body can function the way it was meant to... and will heal itself.

PROVIDE A WORD PICTURE FOR FREE-RADICALS?
Think of a new metal swing in your backyard. It is fresh and crisp. Look at it again in three years and it will be rusted in various spots. As the years go on, it gets rustier. The rust is another way to think of free-radicals. Your blood has “rust” in it which is caused by environmental pollution, food additives, high fat diet, excessive alcohol, smoking and passive smoke inhalation, burns, infection, stress, radiation and nutrient deficiencies.

HOW MUCH DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY FREE RADICALS?
A lot... They attack all body tissues, degrade collagen and reprogram DNA. Free-radicals have been said to be the underlying cause in almost every disease.

IS FREE-RADICAL DAMAGE REAL
Yes... Free-radical damage or oxidative stress is very real. Everyone is subjected to it. Free-radicals have been directly linked to premature aging, arthritis, circulatory disorders, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, heart disease, arteriosclerosis and many other disorders.

SHOULD YOU TAKE "SUPER ANTIOXIDANT" SUPPLEMENTS?
Antioxidants protect you against the harmful and destructive effects of free-radical damage. If you don't have adequate protection against these free-radicals, you are very likely to age faster and experience otherwise avoidable health problems. OPC antioxidants are powerful, natural, free-radical neutralizers. You may be well advised to start taking an OPC Super Antioxidant today... and for life.

BASICS
It is also known as oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC’s), procyanidolic oligomers (PCOs), Pycnogenol and pine bark extract. OPC’s are not a single chemical, but a group of closely related compounds belonging to the bioflavonoid family. They are not necessary for life, although they may prove to be important for optimal health.

REMEDY FOR
Chronic venous insufficiency.
Strengthening blood vessels.
Varicose veins.
Hemorrhoids.
Edema (swelling) following injury or surgery.
Easy bruising.
Aging skin.
Allergies.
Impaired night vision.
Liver cirrhosis.

PREVENTION OF*
Cancer.
Atherosclerosis.
Diabetic neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy (side effects of diabetes).
Heart disease.
Macular degeneration (major cause of age-related blindness).

*However, more research is required to confirm the benefits of Grape Seed extract as a preventive remedy for the above listed ailments.

USAGE DIRECTION
For use as a general antioxidant 50 mg of OPC’s daily are sufficient. A higher dosage of 150 to 300 mg daily is generally used for treating specific diseases such as varicose veins. Grape seed OPC’s are just as good and much less expensive than the maritime pine source.

SOURCES
Grape seeds are the primary commercial source of Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC’s or PCO), which are concentrated in pine bark and grapes. OPC’s and related phenolic flavones are also found in berries, blackcurrant, green tea, black tea, and many other plants. Nutritional supplements containing extracts of proanthocyanidins from various plant sources are available, alone or in combination with other nutrients, in herbal extracts, capsules, and tablets.

OVERDOSE
Acute overdose: Possess anticoagulant properties when taken in high doses.
Chronic overdose: None

CAUTION
For anyone taking coumadin (warfarin), heparin, trental (pentoxifylline), or aspirin, high doses of OPC’s might cause a risk of excessive bleeding. Maximum safe dosages for young children, pregnant or nursing women, or those with severe liver or kidney disease have not been established.
