Yes, to become a psychiatrist, you need 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 4 years of psychiatric residency. There are residency programs that allow you to double board in other fields. Psychiatry/Interal Medicine is a 5 year residency. Psychiatry/Family Practice is a 5 year residency. Psychiatry/Neurology is 6 years. Psychiatry/Child Psychiatry/Pediatrics is 6 years.

Great goal. Psychiatry is another 4+ yrs. after graduating from Medical School.. 4 yrs. undergrad, possibly another 2 or so for a masters.. (in case you don't get into medical school right away), 4 or so.. medical school and another 4 for your speciality.. IF you plan on specializing in other fields.. that's an additional x amount of years depending on the speciality. Lot's of education..
