My best advice is if someone who you are close with can be with you, so that the arm that isn't being used can be used to hold there hand, and they can talk to you while its being done. Then, just rememebr try and relax the other arm and not tense up. It only takse a few seconds and when its over, its over :)

You will feel better if you can learn to be calm.

First tell the person to count 1, 2, 3 (outloud) before "sticking" you.

At 2, take a DEEEP breath.... let it out slowly when the person says "3" (in the 1,2,3 above).

Keep your eyes closed, or turned away.

If you know a joke, tell the joke while the nurse draws the blood. Or, you could ask the person "do you know any good jokes?"

If a family member is with you, hold a conversation with them--- about anything other than what you are doing. Talk about something that you're really interested in.

You'll be so relieved when you realize "It's done" -- and it WILL go fast.

Yes. That's the only option the doctors have to get a blood sample from you. From the looks of it you can't do anything anymore. Accept the fact that the needle will be stuck into your skin. All you need to do is to relax because freaking out may just give you hypertension.

Relax... it won't kill you. Accept the truth that you will encounter needles in your life. God luck and, hopefully, good day! :-)

ME TOO
Yes they will stap your entire body into a contraption that looks like something from a Frankenstein movie, there will be loads of old leather straps and brass buckles. There will be a couple of burly nurses that talk in a language that you don't fully understand. . . Your pulse will be racing and your palms will sweat like a waterfall. However by the time you have taken all this in, the blood test will be over and you will be in the pub with your mates telling them how terrible it was and laughing at their expressions. TRUST ME IT WILL BE FINE!

If you are restrained for it, that will make it even worse. You need to do it without being restrained! Tell them you want some candy to eat while they are doing it. I do that when I get my blood taken because if not I pass out. Good luck!

The only advice I can give you, is to go for a walk before hand and have a glass of water. That gets your blood moving faster so that it takes less time. Take your Mum or somebody in with you to hold your hand and keep you as relaxed as possible and try to focus on your breathing to keep yourself relaxed rather than what is going on around you.

i used to be very scared to get blood taken, i even refused a couple good jobs because it required it. but one day i HAD to do it so i sat there, took some deep breaths and thought to myself, some people do this for fun, meaning getting things pierced. and i know it sounds dumb but it really helped. now i'm not scared at all and have moved on to get multiple piercings...lol.. good luck to you.

I am right there with you.....I hate needles.
Bring something to distract yourself ...an Ipod or the like.
Ask if you can lay down, and for God's sake don't look.
This works for me! Good luck.

Not only your arm but probably your body will be strapped down if you freak out THAT badly.

Please do not feel scared, you fear hurt more than the prick of a needle. It does not hurt, maybe just a little stick.
