I had a glass last night and it tasted ok. It has been sitting on the counter all this time.

Boxed wine lasts longer than bottled wine that has been opened. The wine is stored in a plastic bag within the box that keeps air from getting in, at least less so than an open wine bottle with the cork pushed back in. You should be able to drink the wine for weeks or months after it's first been opened. We have a box of merlot on our counter that was first opened before Christmas and it's still fine.

As Mama Gretch mentioned below, boxed wines keep longer than an opened/recorked bottle. She used the term plastic bag, which is the right concept but the bag is more likely to be aluminized mylar material, which will not leach into the wine. Much has been made about how long wine will last after being opened, and it's due to the oxidation that takes place when air and wine come into contact. Boxed wines avoid this because there is no air to come in contact with the wine still in the box. The bad collapses around the wine and is essentially air-tight.

Since wine stores best at 55-59 degrees Fahrenheit, I'd consider putting the boxed wine in a pantry near the kitchen that might be a little more stable than on the countertop, which will likely have a warmer temperature than close-by storage. However, keep in mind we're not talking about Chateau Lafite or BV George LaTour here because boxed wines aren't made for cellaring.

I don't drink boxed wines so much anymore, but when I used to (for budgetary reasons), I found mine kept for six weeks at least. Maybe would have kept longer, but a box rarely lasted that long.

My philosophy is, "Hey, I've got a lot of wine for a great price, it's drinkable so I can have a glass almost every night." Enjoy!

The trick is to not let any air into the wine bladder. I once asked a person at a high-end wine shop how long the box wines would be at their best after being tapped and he said for sure 2-3 weeks. After that, all bets are off.

Well, it tends to turn into vinegar, opened bottles of wine aren't supposed to be allowed to sit for awhile, I've read that sometimes it only takes about 3 days for the wine to start turning into vinegar.

I have heard you are supposed to drink a bottle of wine within 2 weeks after opening it. Not sure if it actually spoils but I guess you don't get the full flavor if it sits longer than that.

Keep note as you empty it. Who knows you may stumble on
a new way to enjoy boxed wines. "Spoilt" wines may suit
someone else' palate.
