Because of syntax errors during translation into English, the only way to grasp the true concepts behind the words is to read it in its original language. Also, the standard King James Bible is so named because he edited it! It was mass published as a means of countering the political power of the Church. Up until that time if you wanted to know what Scripture said you had to go to the Church to find out - and offer your tithe money and alms for the poor, etc. ad nauseum - by the time you left you could be poorer than the poor you donated to. So King James says, "I want to limit that power and cut myself a slice of that pie, too." and he causes the K.J.Bible to be published, funding the effort and getting interest on the loans he extends to bookprinters. Now the public's money is spent, not in the Church, but in purchasing their very own Bible, which says the same thing no matter if you read it in England, France, or anywhere else. Suddenly the Church is no longer the "go to" for information, and King James' coffers start filling up. Also note that early Christian councils such as Nicea and Wyrms held debates on what to include in the "official" Bible - and what to leave out. The so-called Dead Sea Scrolls are the missing books of the Bible and are worth a look.

I don't have to read the whole bible to answer your question, but I am familiar with it. In my opinion, no, you are not to believe that all the words in the Bible are memos from God to you. PEOPLE wrote the Bible. The Bible is a collection of writings from many people over a very long span of time. Books have been added, eliminated, and editted all throughout your King James version and other Christian versions. The Jewish texts are NOT identical to the Old Testament of the Christian texts. It is possible, and many people believe, that the writing of the books in what you call the Bible was inspired by God (open to interpretation as to what this even means), but it seems foolish to think God wrote them himself.
Besides, when any writing goes through multiple translations from language to language to language to language, meanings change, although sometimes subtly.
The bible has come to be what it is because SO MANY people in power over the past 2000 yrs or so have decided how to control the rest of everyone around them through Christianity. Those who attempt to take the bible literally (which is impossible due to all the contradicitons) are incorrect.
God gave us the capacity to think so that we could interpret the messages in the bible (and in our lives) and do a little work in order to better ourselves. The Bible is not the human being handbook.

Every spiritual teaching in the Bible is from God. Take care when reading any Holy Book, to discern the Word of God from the word of man. If you want to get a picture of the historical setting and 'climate' of the times then read the entire Bible, but if you are seaching for true guidance from God alone, save yourself some time and read only the quotes from Jesus Christ. These quotes comprise only about 7-8 pages and will give you the true, uninterpreted teachings from Christ.

i could evaluate myself one to have faith enormously plenty each thing interior the bible, yet I dont prefer to take it so far to assert that each notice interior the bible is completley precise. there are various translations accessible who use diverse words and such. So which one is sturdy? There are some aspects interior the previous testomony to illustrate that are describing a single horned animal. some bibles actual say unicorn. Which doesnt recommend the mythological creature yet uncomplicated a one horned animal, yet some bibles say rhynocerous. i think of there are little issues here and there that recommend which you cant merely postpone your bible and say each notice written in that's one hundred% real and precise. yet I do have faith it exchange into God stimulated. I additionally hate while Christians say the bible is the notice of God. No wher ein the bible does it say that the bible is the notice of God, infact the bible wasnt composed and arranged as "the bible" because it exchange into being written.

If we have to read the entire Bible from front to back before replying your question will expire before we can get to it.
But I would say that 100% of the Bible was written by mortal man and is intended to convey ideas and concepts, not the actual word of God or whatever.
There are a lot of laws that are spelled out in the Bible that would get me a summons and a court date if I every tried to literally comply with them. But yet God has commanded that I must do these things, but if I did, I could end up in the slammer.

The imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth.
Gen.6:2,4;
Angels did sin before the flood Jude 6; 1Pet.3:18-20; 2Pet:2:4;
Gen.12:4,10;
Pharoah is Pharoah to disguise his identity. Kings freely took females.
Gen.14:1-16;
Abraham is surrounded by land pirates.
Gen.19:24;
Only one law abiding person in Sodom and Gomorrah.
Heb.1:1-40; 12:1,2;
Rev.12:1-12; Satan and one third as unholy angels.
Matt.25:31-34; The sheep and the goat.
God respecting person 4064 years before Christ, 35 years of his life to year 33 and year 100 after Christ John at Revelations, persons of faith can be placed on one sheet of paper. So how many saints in the past 2007 years?
MAN IS EVIL FROM YOUTH SO WHY DOES GOD BOTHER. YET HE HAS PROMISED SALVATION.

why do you ask should you
believe...when you have already made up your mind and called it BS..this is not really as much a question as a veiled statement..
For it to be a legitimate question, you might have asked do you think every word is true as opposed to should I believe it where you just stated you didn't..you juat wanted to spread your doubt and views and convince others of it. .
I have read all the new testament and about 1/2 of the old testament and yes, I do believe it is true as did Jesus and I do not believe hIm to be a liar or a lunatic... if it is good enough for Jesus, it is fgood enough for me..it is a matter of having faith in the words contained in it
Some of the sentiments I expressed in the best answer here apply to this question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjOfDUT9iuSw2zkdTf0ok1Xsy6IX?qid=20070106005818AA0zdV5&show=7#profile-info-4b430a37d0d9eee2c36f11c731438849aa
Much of science is not contradicted in the Bible and anthroplogy has discovered many of the ancient cities and such long thought of as myths..Jesus said "as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days, so shall I be in the tomb" showing His belief in scriptures.
I believe the verse posted by mainworry "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness":

Just believe what you want to believe. I think many people are religious because they desperately need to believe in something because they are scared. Which is fine if it makes you feel better or more confidant to go through life. I'm not religious at all. I would like to believe that there is someone or something out there looking after us but in reality I'm in control of my actions. I can't believe in something that I cannot hear , see, touch etc. I think if we go through life trying to do our best then perhaps we will be happy but then life just gets in the way sometimes. Religion seems to divide so much. There are so many different religions and every one of those says theirs is the only one. Well, who is right?????? There is too much killing in the name of religion. If we all just did our own thing and accepted others then the world WOULD be a better place. Acceptance and respect of others is the key to a peace-full world.

The Bible is not a fax sent down from heaven - it has been revised, edited and I believe its true interpretation has been lost through the centuries by religious dogma.

The teachings of Jesus are profound and worthy of using as guidelines to live one's life. However, it didn't work out so well for him (in the flesh).
From Balaam's talking donkey in Numbers to the contradictory accounts of Jesus in the new testament there is a lot to be skeptical of. That is where faith comes in. I would rather believe in Jesus than any other religion out there. I've gotten more poon telling the ladies I am a christian than agnostic, dog.
