c Costa C; You do not say WHAT model Macintosh.. (Actually, I am writing ON an old -tweaked- 21-inch-screened, G-4 right, now).

Second-hand, it's best to seek out a G -4 '466' model:
-they're 'the go'...

I would, then advise you to listen to the girl advocating, "Bootcamp" -to run Microsoft..

yeah its called the cd drive of your mac....if you put the disc in you should be able to view the contents...doesn't mean you can run the stuff, but you can look at it....if you have a newer mac (one running on the intel chip) you can actually install the programs off a disc. If its an older mac or doesn't have the latest OS then all you can really do is look at the stuff, if there are pictures, sound, or data on the disc you can copy them to the mac but not actually run the program.

I think you can install windows on your mac using bootcamp and run your cds as if on windows.
