Funny Bone:
It is a point on the elbow where the ulnar nerve passes near the surface ( medial epicondyle of the humerus) .
a sharp tingling sensation results when the nerve is knocked against the bone.
(It may also have to do with its location relative to the humerus, as well as the fact that "humerus" is homophonic to the word "humorous"=funny).

Injury to the nerve above this funny bone is common in golf players, which causes extreme pain. this is called as golfer's elbow.

"Funny bone" is a mis-nomer. The nerve that runs down the shoulder, through the arm and to the hand, crosses over the elbow joint, on the outside of the joint. Bump the nerve sheath and it causes a tingling sensation from the elbow down to the hand.
