I have been using Equate brand conditioning solution for a while now but for the past 4 months or so have had problems wearing my contacts. My eyes would burn and I would have to take my contacts out. I went to the eye doctor and he said there was a film on my contacts. He cleaned them. The contacts felt good for a while after that but then began having trouble again. I finally realized that the conditioning solution was causing my problem and quit using it. I now put my contacts in water overnight. I haven't had a problem since. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I hurting my contacts by not using the conditioning solution? Please don't answer this if you aren't familiar with gas permeable contacts. They are totally different from soft lenses.

I used to wear those lenses; but now wear disposable soft ones.

Equate is a Walmart brand, right? If so, I was having the same problem and my eye doctor told me there might be something in that brand that I am allergic to (burning, itching, etc.).

Ask what he recommends that is preservative-free and try a name brand. I think you'll have better luck. Water is not reallly bad for your contacts, but it's not good for your eyes because the solutions disinfect the lenses.

You might not want to hear this, but AcuVue Oasis lenses are sooooooo comfortable. I wouldn't go back to gas perms.
You doctor can give you a free trial pair. Good luck!

p.s. one other thought....try using a product like "Blink and Clean" rewetting drops or natural tears when the lenses are in your eyes whenever you get that "filmy" sort of gunk on your lenses. For me, that is caused by having dry eyes. THose drops really help me..

Using water to store your lenses in can cause calcium deposits to build up on your lenses. It will also increase the risk of infection as you are not disinfecting them.

One of the best gas permeable lens solutions is the Bausch & Lomb or Boston solutions. The cleaner has gritty beads like a facial scrub to clean off protein and the soaking solution disinfects and conditions the lens.

I am having problems with my semi gas permeable contacts re-wetting when I blink. I have never had this problem before(30 years) It only happens with my new ones - they have remade them at least 8 times.

I don't think it damages them, but they don't get clean and you can develop eye infections from this which can actually lead to losing your site (maybe even your eye) if it goes untreated. Be careful!
