Without knowing the age or breed of your dog it's hard to say what will work best, but definately take the dog on a good walk 1-2 times a day, if he needs motivating find a treat or favorite toy that will entice him to move forward and give the treat after he's gone for 100 feet. My boyfriend had 2 dogs when we first met and my 1 dog was able to get his older dog to be more active then she had been in a while. Then we added a jack russell mix who made her more active, and a couple weeks ago we added a dalmation mix which has made her more active then I have ever known her in to be in the 2 years I've known her. If you arn't able to get another younger dog to do this make sure he has lots of stimulus in the house like toys and the walks.

I play a game with mine. I put them in a closed room.

Then I hide treats all over the main rooms of the house. My dogs are short so I put them all down low so they aren't too hard to find. Not too many just about 8 small treats per dog. Then I let them out and the first time I had to show them where a couple were to get them to understand what was going on. Now they dash all around willy nilly searching and sniffing. We all love this game and it takes them about 10 minutes to find all of the treats. I do it in the yard sometimes too.

Always walk your dog. Even if you don't want to just once around the block or up and then down the street a bit. It's so good for their moral and yours too.
