For a lot of things on the Internet, it says that I need Winzip, but I don't want to pay any money. Is there anything free that can do the same thing?

Upgrade to Windows XP (or if you are using windows XP); Windows XP comes with an inbuilt program to unzip & zip files.

winzip is free, it just prompts you to get the full version each time you open it...there are other compression tools and programs out there, some free some paid...check
