A cat licks another cat on the top of its head. I have two birmin cats a male and a female arouned the same age. They get on quite well together, but sometimes have this thing of one licking the other on the head which can often result in a bit of a fight. Does anyone know why this is?

They are grooming each other.
We have four cats and the two that are Sisters groom each other all the time.
I often find them licking each others heads or faces.
When one gets tired of being groomed she either take a swat or nip at her Sister...it's nothing more than a sign to say "I'm done, I don't want you to do that anymore"

They are just grooming each other in affection. When it becomes a fight it's usually because one has had enough. This can happen to a person too if you pat a cat too long.

They are probably just grooming each other. If you were a cat wouldn't you appreciate that???

That's how they show affection to each other. Sometimes one just isn't in the mood, just like humans. :)
