hi i know it is possible to free eye tests but can you get free contact lenses as well? i recently signed up for jobseekers allowance. i have no money in the bank to pay for contact lenses or glasses. i still have not received my first 'dole' payment. i might as well get what im allowed to, coz i will be paying taxes in a few weeks when i can get a job hopefully? does anyone know?

No, the nhs will not pay for contact lenses. you may be entitled to help with the cost of your glasses, like the nhs paying for the lenses and you apying for the frames. Just ask the dole people.

not sure about lenses because they are luxury not a necessity. I do know that if you are in receipt of benefits you are entitled to either a discount on glasses or free ones..go into your local opticians and ask them.
