Going on vacation this summer in Australia. Have booked some tours here and there. Just booked 4 days with OZ Adventures to do some sailing and diving. The confirmation talks about how Bed bugs are normal when people live in close quarters :-O
Can anybody tell me more about this company. Good experiences and bad.

If you are staying in a reputable hotel or motel, you should not have any problems with bed bugs, as the hotel should have a proper pest control regime in place.

The problem comes about if you stay in grotty backpackers' hostels, where other grotty backpackers have stayed, and their personal fauna have stayed behind.

I'd suggest that you check out your accomodation carefully when you arrive, and if you are not satisfied, then go somewhere else. Make sure you keep yourself and your clothes clean. You might want to invest in a bottle of "Rid", (available in the insecticides section of the supermarket in Australia, as well as pharmacies & hardware shops), even if you don't have problems with bed bugs, you will want it in Qld for the mosquitoes & flies on land.

Sailing in the Whitsundays is BRILLIANT. Enjoy!

I have travelled extensivly in Australia and never encountered bed bugs. More likely to find bed bugs in Engllish and some French hotels than in Australia! There are strict controls over hygiene and cleaning in Hotels Motels. Get Fodors Guide to Australia and chose the one that suits you from the description and "star guide"
Backpackers are the only close living type dormitories that you may encounter bed bugs. Carry a can of Mortein with you if you are worried, or just stay in places that have a reputation for cleanliness.
More likely to be bitten by a shark or poisonus snake or even a red back spider than a common bed bug. have a nice holiday!
