It isnt a silly question as clearly Centrino and Core 2 Duo are two different CPUs

The Intel Core 2 Duo is little more advanced then the Centrino however the Centrino will use less power then the Intel Core Duo 2.

The 1st computer comes with more memory which is nice and a 100GB HDD which is also bigger.

The both of them however will run Windows Vista Home Premium without any problems unless it is otherwise stated on the machine its self.

It's really up to you what it would be used for etc.

The Intel Centrino perfect yes but the Intel Core Duo 2 would be better if you are looking at gaming.

They both are nice Laptops IMO.

Silly question.
Assuming both the processors are centrinos, the first option is better as it has double the RAM.

However, the core 2 duo is a better processor than the core duo, although with only 1GB of Ram, it will not make that much difference.

Laptop 1 is best.

High RAM works wonders. I have a 1 Gig (DDR) and a 2 Gig (DDR) RAM Laptop. The 2Gig one is soooooo much faster. It would run Vista better.

Both would run Vista well since they have large video memories. You have to ask yourself if the price difference between 1 Gig and 2Gig RAM is worth it for the applications you will be running. In most cases it's not.

The first appears preferable, but when it comes to laptops things are far from straightforward and even those from big-name brands can suffer disastrous problems, especially with overheating.

If you want a tough one, engineered to work in the real world, buy a Panasonic Toughbook.

If you wnat a more economically-priced one, buy a ThinkPad -- at least you can get spare parts for them, which is more than you can say for most laptops.

THe first one would be better in general. The only difference between the two is it has a larger hard drive and more memory.

If you did get laptop 2 you can always add more memory however thw hard drive would be harder to upgrade.

Vista would be compatible with either

Go with laptop 1. It has bigger RAM. Yes, the processor in the second is better and newer, but trust me, you don't need it as much as you need a big RAM these days.

I use a Celeron processor and 2 GB RAM.. I'm better than others who have better processors but smaller RAMS.
