It could be lymph nodes that have been inflamed. Sometimes they leave scar tissue (ie: permanent lumps in the neck). If they are painful or grow larger, get them checked out as soon as possible. Otherwise, wait until you go to the doctor for something else, and ask it as a quickie "by the way" question.
Oh, and if you are really worried, get 'em checked out anyway. Better safe than sorry -- better safe than stressed out, too!

It could be what is called Trigger Points, which are basically an area in the muscle belly that become tight and knotted. The other thing that they could be are swollen lymph nodes, but since they only appear right after you cough, without seeing them I would guess it is trigger points. Your neck is probably out of alignment and if you also get neck pain or headaches, chiropractic adjustments might be something to consider.

Hmmmm good question. I have never heard of this before.
I have a few questions for you though:
1. Are these lumps painful?
2. Are these lumps getting bigger?
3. Have you always had these lumps?
Recommendation: Go and see an expert.

They are probably swollen lymph nodes, this happens whenever your body has an infection (and so excess fluid, white blood cells etc cause them to swell up.) This infection could be just a cold, but it also could be something more serious, definitely go to a doctor. Take care and best of luck xx

I'm a nurse. It sounds like your lymph system. I would see a doctor for some medication for your comfort.
