Great idea, but dogster.com already thought of it...

I wouldn't pay $5 a month, that is quite expensive to be able go to a website for dog lovers, I love the idea except for the five bucks, try like 50 cents or $1 at the most a month, that would go to support animal shelters, the SPCAs and humane societies. I might join but would like to look explore it before commiting to it.

I personally would not join for $5 a month; I'd rather give my time and money to shelters.
A recommendation I would have is to check out Dog Scouts of America. It's a new organization and you can open your own chapter (after doing a few things). I've joined a chapter and we have bi-weekly geocaching (hiking looking for a "cache: which has items in it..you take something, you leave something), we have biweekly play sessions, we're going to try some flyball and all different types of activities.
It's great fun for everyone. We are also raising money to buy vests for police dogs.

I wouldn't pay $5 per month to join a forum. I think it's a good idea but ditch the fee. Not many people would be willing to pay $60 per year in a forum/blog.

would be nice but the five dollars a month thing. Do this add a section saying Featured Shelter and when you click it say a little something about the shelter and then put a link saying How Can I Help? then you put the donating money stuff

Sounds good but not worth $60 a year. There are other blogs already which are free.

I wouldn't pay $5.00 for it (you didn't sell me on it - didn't really explain what you're wanting on the site).. honestly I'd rather donate that money monthly to my favorite charity..
Good luck anyway.
