he's just my mate but one mention of another guy and he'll start teasing me with him or make silly comments/jokes (even though he does that alot anyway and does stupid things like hide my coat in class) there was this one time a guy we both know txted me and when i told him he was kinda shocked and asked me what he wrote in the message!! i mean what is it to him who and what people txt/call me? what is his problem?

basicly a guy might felt so , if the person likes you or thinks that the person ur talking to ain't a very good person or he felt lefted behind. Is actually a normal thing , sometimes i felt the same when my girlfriend talked with a guy that i don't like.
Caused seriously a guy will know more about the other guy background but for some problem , they don't want to let the girl know about it.
As my advise don't ask the guy why , caused basicly he got his reason for it , a person don't get jealous for reason. If you care for the guy or you still wanna be friend with that guy or you urself have feelings for the guy then , pay more attention to him and try to avoid this problem.

he might be possessive. he wants your entire attention. i have a friend like that. it's never a problem for me. whenever we go out together, i give my full time to her. i'm happy with it. we both are. =)
