When ever I try to run steam or any games related to steam such as css or half life 2 nothing happens. I double click on the icon and nothing. When i press ctrl alt del it says that steam is running in the processes. It worked about a week ago but it is just not working now. The only thing I have changed is I switched my router with a new one could this be the problem ?

Since you have said that you have just changed your router, it could be the easily culprit to blame.
However, it would pay to wait for a least 5 to 10 minutes to make sure Steam isn't just updating itself
