A lot of parents and family members smoke around kids, I saw a woman put a lit cigarette in a toddlers mouth when I was out shopping this weekend, she did it in full view of lots of people, I was very tempted to shove it down her throat and make her eat it.
I see people smoking over open prams, and holding children whilst a *** hangs out of their mouths, they have a right to kill themselves sure! but why do they inflict it on their kids?

I can't understand how someone can be so stupid as to smoke in front of children - there is just no excuse for that is there? Everyone knows the risks of passive smoking, so why do they still do it? I'm a non-smoker now, and I never - ever - smoked near kids, would cross the road if I was smoking whilst out. Didn't smoke if out for the day with friends with little ones. What ever happened to common sense and decency?

Personally, I feel that it is disgusting and inhumane. A child cannot determine for themselves whether or not they want to be a smoker at 1 year old. My husband was a smoker, and he never smoked near the kids... even if we were all outside together, he'd be far away from the kids when he lit up. He quit smoking about 8 months ago with the help of the nicotine gum, and is much happier about going places with his family. He and I recently went to a casino, and he was the one who suggested we leave when the place reeked like smoke. Since, he has been a large proponent of non-smoking around children, and actively speaks his mind when he sees people smoking around kids. Where we live (Southern California) it is illegal to smoke in areas that are pervasive with children, such as parks. I feel that it should be a crime to smoke in your car, if you have children present in the vehicle. The toxins in cigarette smoke are well documented, as are the effects on a fetus and young children. The damage done by smoking (low birthweight, succeptibility to asthma, lung damage, etc.) is not worth it to a child who hasn't chosen it for themselves, and can't influence the adult to stop. Evidence also shows that an alarming rate of children of smokers grow up to be smokers themselves, perpetuating the cycle. I ask that family members who smoke (there aren't many in my family) that they do so away from my kids. I also make sure that if we are somewhere where smoking is allowed (not very often around Calif.) that we get up and leave or ask the person to refrain from smoking while we are there. I believe that people have the right to smoke... I never asked my husband to quit- he did it on his own... but they don't have the right to inflict the damages done by smoking onto others.

They say that when someone smokes a cigarette they breathe the filtered smoke in... the other smoke that is unfiltered is free to roam the whole house... a child is a growing and tender being.. their lungs are not totally formed yet. They breathe a lot and they need oxygen more because of high play and running around....
So Id say no way because 2nd hand smoke has been studied and it is more dangerous than regular smoke... strange but that is what the studies show... there is a lot more of it too... Id also say no because this is a bad example for the child... they could get a small amount of addiction in their mind... you never know if they could get prone to nicotine addiction later on and when offered a cigarette later in life.. if they do take it because they've seen adults do it... they may be more prone to not being able to quit. Remember nicotine is actually just as addictive than heroin... the psychologists have studied this... and it is just as hard a habit to break!!

I agree with you. It is a vile habit that should not be inflicted on a child, or any other person to that matter! It looks so cheap and tacky when you see someone walking down the road with a *** hanging out their mouth, even worse when they are pushing a pram. I make everyone leave the room when my daughters in the room if they want to smoke and my fiance would never allow anyone to smoke near me while i was pregnant.

personally, if its outside that their are smoking around their child i think its ok. u kno, kid in buggy, mum/dad havi ***, then yea, fine. never shoving a f@g in a kids mouth thats wrong! i'd never hold a child while smoking. i babysit a 2 yr old n she kno's they're bad, she's not to touch them, i go outside 4 f@gs so it seems like a punishment 4 smoking (outside being the balcony..she h8s it so won't go out but i can still keep an eye on her). either way, in a house or pub/beefeater kinda thingy id never smoke round a child. its just askin 4 trouble.
i dnt c y, just cuz sum1 wants 2 smoke, y they can't smoke in the same great outdoors as their child. now...im ready 4 the h8 mail so fire away, u won't get a reply, i'm 23 weeks pregnant, and yes i AM still smoking. but only cuz i found out when i was 19 weeks that i were pregnant n the doc's thought it may b 2 much of a shock 2 the system if i go cold turkey, so i've got to slowly quit. any1 dnt understand..bugger ya! i AM quittin tho. but evn if i dnt, i dont c y ppl would judge me 4 smoking, while baby's in a pram while i'm taking the dog 4 a walk or summat!
ramble ova...lets c how many thumbs dwn i get. i understand ur POV tho, and i agree with bits..abt 90% i agree

I think this is terrible and I used to smoke! I would never smoke around my daughter no matter what. This causes sooooo many problems for children. Many babies die of SIDS b/c of the smoke in the house, and older children develop athsma and breathing problems and are more at risk for obesity b/c they cannot exercise b/c of the breathing problems. I am not anti-smoking by any means, I just believe that smoking around children is EXTREMEMLY harmful. My aunt smoked while pregnant and she and my uncle would smoke in the house after her kids were born. She would breastfeed and have a cigarette hanging out of her mouth at the same time!! I totally agree w/ you on this subject.

I agree that each person has the right to smoke if they want. However, they don't have the right to poison their kids as well as any others.
It makes me so angry. Especially since one of my children has respiratory problems. Smokers can be soooo inconsiderate. They will smoke outside because they are forced to but then do it right in front of the entrance/exit to a facility. Then my child has to walk through their poison and have even greater difficulty breathing. They should have to suck air through a straw on a regular basis and see how they like it. They are no better than heroine addicts. I don't care if smokers get pissed off at me either. They are what they are and they know it and don't care. Then they want to be the first ones on the list for transplants and such when they discover they have lung cancer. LOSERS!

I agree with you! If parents and family members want to smoke then go outside or away from kids. Dont subject an innocent child to 2nd hand smoke! If the child grows up to adulthood and wants to smoke then its their choice, but no-one should subject them to it prematurely. They may even grow up without having ever smoked a cigarette and still have the effects from people smoking around them like respiratory problems, empheseyma, heart conditions etc. Its bad enough with all the pollution in the world.
Shame!!!

I hate that parents smoke around their kids. It is just so selfish. doing harm to themsleves is one thing but inflicting it on the vchildren this way should be criminal. I think passive smoking in part explains why there is so much asthma in kids. There are so many issues and cigarettes are supposed to contain around 69 poisons - benzene, formaldehyde etc. As for a woman putting a cig in her kids mouth (that is evil) - I would have felt the same. Theey need to bring in new legislation to protect kids from this filth.

Years ago it wasn't much of an issue, and not known as serious. But with all we know, it is a very serious issue. Back years ago I am sure it wasn't even good then. But today....I agree its a problem. Its dis-respectful to our children and very unhealthy. People should not smoke around their kids or anyone for that matter. People who do not smoke shouldn't be subjected to the smokers. Lets keep that to ourselves. We are now the minority. That's for sure. I am a smoker and respect others. And would NEVER smoke around my grand-kids.
