I am considering getting a tattoo this year, but I have heard that they fade after a few years. What about white tattoos? Do they fade too?

kobra whatever, tattoos do not neccessarily mean sluttyness. A friend of mine died recently and I would like them to be with me forever and I would like their name on me. Does that make me slutty? I'm not one of those people who think 'Oh I'll get a tattoo' spare of the moment thing. By the sound of things yoou're bitter about an old girlfriend who had a tattoo and she was a slut. Get over it.

Yes they fade, but not to the point where they cant be seen anymore. You'll still be able to see it very clearly in 20 years, it just wont have that fresh look it had when it was applied. But you can always have it touched up.

I would not worry too much about it at the moment, More than likely you caught it while sleeping, Tattoos do ooze a little when scabbing,(trust me I am working on my second full sleeve and have about 50 hours of tattoo work on my body so far) I find the best way to heal is 3 times a day soak and wash the tattoo in the hottest water you are able to handle for 2-3 minutes to open the pores then use cold water straight after to close the pores, allow to air dry for 10 - 15 mins then apply preperation H or what ever cream you choose. This cuts down on the scabbing and speedds up healing. If the colour still looks faded when secondary healing is over(the onion peal scab) then go back to the tattoo artist but remember do not pick it. Good luck

Yes most tattoos will fade, some more than others, depending on color and exposure. Greens and reds tend to fade more than other colors, whites fastest of all, and if your tattoo is exposed to the sun often it will fade even faster.
Now as for white tattoos, most artists won't do them. You have to have at least an outline, which is done in black. All white tattoos seem like a waste of time to me. Like, what's the point?

And to Kobra-
Tattoos aren't slutty, as you say. Plus, I know for a fact nobody's skin looks very good at eighty anyways so what's the big deal. Old and saggy is old and saggy, regardless or whether it's tattooed or not.

As others have said, they will eventually fade somewhat, due to exposure to the sun. The lighter colours will fade faster, and white fades fastest of all.

The quality of the original tattooing will also influence the rate at which they fade &/or deform.

And they will fade faster in some locations than others: see an earlier answer in this section by "everybody" to a question about getting one on the palm of the hand, or the finger pads. The rate of new skin growth leads to the ink "growing out".

I have some accidental tattooing on my knee (I fell over, fine grit got in the wounds). It has faded somewhat after 30 years, mainly as the grit has worked its way to the surface, and been scrubbed off.

As already said....They do provided your in sunlight etc. etc.

But white ink, if you're having just a white design on it's own, it will fade. I mean within months depending on your skin tone. I have white ink within some of my designs, but it's used as highlights etc or as part of a design. If you mean nothing but white, you'd be throwing your money away on it pretty much. I know alot about this stuff, so take what I say as accurate.

Something else you could use if you wanted it to be subtle..like really subtle is UV ink, you can check out designs on bmezine.com.

Whatever you decide on, I think it's admirable you're remebering a friend. That's very sweet, ignore what that fuckwit said as I saw you did, way to go telling him ;)

sounds to me like these ppl dont have a clue what they're on about........ yes tattoos will fade over time (nothing lasts forever) but we are talking years & years, they wont fade after 1 or 2 years (provided they do not get too much sun!!!!!!) the sun's a killer....!! i got my first one when i was 16 (im 26) & the colour is fine...!! if u wanna get a tat i say go & do it (provided u r legal age) don't let anyone's objections turn u off..... all i say is make sure u really want one before u do it..... as for the dick who says 'grandmas a sl*t' (oh... makes me laugh) im not gonna be walking around in a bikini when im 80..... what's granny doin wearin clothes that show off her lower back anyways??? lol ...
anyway - back 2 u susan - looking after it in the first few weeks is very important too... NO sun, NO swimming, NO sweating.... until it has healed, if u follow the directions your tattooist gives u, it should be fine..... but be careful - they are addictive..!!!!!!!! :-)

well i do not know for sure if tattoos fade but i have had mine on my ankle for the past 4 years and it is still as dark as the day i got it i still have people ask me if its new. so i hope you like what you get and that it doesnt fade for you.

P.S.

i dont agree with the slut thing about the lower back. although i do agree with the fact that it will not look the same in like 30 years. it probably will be a little wrinkled. so that butterfly will most likely look like a pterodactyl

Sometimes they fade, or become mishapen, it all depends on if you gain/lose a lot of weight, if you are the sun a lot etc. The place that I went to guaranteed my color, and would "touch up" if ever I needed it for free. You might try looking for a place like that, and no I do not think they are slutty--I have four, and they all mean something dear to me--one of them is the initials of my oldest son, and I am planning on another one for my son that is four months old--I just haven't found the one that I want yet.

Yes they fade, especially when exposed to prolonged sunlight. You can help prevent this by applying sunscreen on your tattoo when you are going to be outside though.
