Hi Leo,

Aside from the frescoes, there are no special features (artistically or architecturally) about the Sistine Chapel. Michaelangelo himself said the building had no more architecture than a "cow barn."

Aside from the paintings there is the architecture of the chapel and also what it is used for.

The architecture is important as this set the rules for Michelangelo's frescos. The ceiling is barrel vaulted with spandrels and lunettes which caused Michelangelo many planning problems that he obviously overcame.

The Sistine Chapel is also used by the Vatican when a new Pope is elected.
