When one closes the eyes tight you are actually closing the nasolacrimal ducts that connects the conjunctival sac to the nasal cavities.

By so doing you are preventing the nasal passages air (under high pressure during sneezing) from going up towards yhe eyeball and you will prevent a reflux of tears over the eyeball.

With the eyes open you will thus have tears accumulating

I have tried and tried to sneeze with my eyes open, especially whilst driving, and I believe its totally impossible. We do this for a reason, and obviously if that it, then leave it be and pull over safely if you think you are gonna sneeze. If time is not permitting, I normally press very hard on the bit between the lower part of my nose and the top lip, (Septum?) This normally delays the sneeze for a bit. (Try it) Works for me. Bless you!

It is possible, and nothing happens. I was told it was impossible before and in my usual style set out to disprove it by training myself not to close my eyes when i sneeze. Eventually i got there and i can now sneeze without closing my eyes.

Some people can sneeze with their eyes open and some people can’t. Sneezing is a reflex and so is closing our eyes. We have no control over whether or not we close our eyes when we sneeze. Some people don’t have reflex, so when they sneeze then their eyes won’t close. Some people try to close their eyes so when they sneeze their eyes won’t pop out. Your eyes don’t really pop out. People without the reflex to sneeze with their eyes open can try to train themselves to sneeze with their eyes open. One good way to do this is if when you sneeze you hold your eyes open.

I suspect the two reflexes are linked (sneezing and shutting one's eyes) because those who sneeze with their eyes closed have less risk of infection from the saliva and mucous that is "sneezed out." I can't prove it; it's just what makes sense to me.

It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, so there's no really telling what might happen. Apparently your eyes will pop out, not sure how this will happen but people say they've tried holding their eyelids open while sneezing and nothing happened. If this did happen while sneezing i think we would've been created differently to avoid such things from happening!

Nothing would happen... except that you would spray anybody near you with spit, because instead of covering your mouth, you would be holding your eyes open.
