We get dogs, then start punishing them for doing things they are instinctually driven to do. They like pee and poop and use it for communication. But oh, if a dog potties somewhere a person objects to, we smash his face into it, spank him, whap him with a newspaper, yell, stomp, whatever.

Some breeds of dogs have been selected to carry things in their mouths, but oh! If you Golden Retriever starts stealing things, they get beaten, yelled at, kicked, Alpha Rolled, tssted, all kinds of things.

Dogs have been selected for thousands of years to be certain ways. We have selected for prey drive, but not kill drive to create the perfect herding dogs, for example.

But I see your point, I think. We want our dogs to not do certain things at certain times, and punish them to achieve those results? Is that what you were trying to say?

Such as: dogs being hardwired to check out new things in their environment, but when we take our dog to a new place (vet, store, dog trainer) we want them to lay quietly and not sniff, pull, try to visit, etc?

People who have to beat, kick, or constantly yell at their dog(s) to make them mind don't have the dog's respect as pack leader. Dogs have to know who is the pack leader or they will assume the position themselves. They have to be trained where to go to the bathroom, what is an appropriate toy, etc. With training, accidents are reduced to a bare minimum & theft is solved with a simple command, like "drop it" without much of a fuss. Besides training can be fun. Bonding with your dog makes pooch & you happier & healthier.

If my dog pees or does anything in the house i would never do any of that stuff,I just say no.And that trained her well, cause now she goes to the door and barks when she needs to go.i think dogs are just like humans, they are ppl,and how would WE feel if we got kicked and pushed and are face pushed. When we were younger we alllll needed a diaper change cause we didnt no what a toilet was!Thats just my opinion.I agree with you...if what ur saying is dont do that stuff.

That's why I let my dog do whatever he wants, he's more like a wolf now. The problem is he lacks discipline and will try to escape any chance he gets.

well i have to agree with some of your question people tend to treat their dogs unlike dogs they treat them like humans. the dogs get away with murder yet if they were in a pack would be punished. now i agree with you abuse is not the awsner but neither is babying your animal. treat it like a dog and it will be a dog.

That's called TRAINING!

While one would have to be INSANE to imagine that they AREN'T dog-CARNIVOROUS ANIMALS-they MUST be "civilized" by TRAINING so they can live w/humans in a human world.

Saying "Oh no honey, mommy doesn't wike you to BITE BABIES!" or doing a "time-out" is NOT going to TRAIN them! & you might as throw them into the woods-streets- to live feral-as allow them to do whatever they please.

IF *you* want to live in the woods.....*you* can let your dog shi* anywhere is wants. MY dogs will be CIVILIZED.

it's really not that bad, we simply want to housebreak them so that they become good companions
it's really no more than trying to train your children not to be little monsters
