Can i use oil paints on an acrylic base coat, done on streatched canvas?

Yes you can. Virtually all off-the-shelf stretched canvases are acrylic primed and you can paint oil over acrylic. You just cannot paint acrylic over oil because the acrylic sets too quickly causing stress which cracks the acrylic layer.

Well I've often undercoated boards or ply wood with white acrylic house paint, then sanded the surface to give a key.
Its probably not ideal if you want the painting to last decades and decades, but i've seen no visible problems on paintings i did 13 years ago. I think tyou do need a reasonably thick layer of oil paint on the top though

my gut feeling as a painter also, is that the oil will infuse into the acrylic which would weaken the attachment to the canvas...i think it would probably peel over time, yet work temporaily.
i usually use acrylics.

yes oil can stay on acrylic, but the test of time is something else ,how long is the test of time
