My dad is in his late 40's and he has very good thick hair for his age, he just has a little hair loss on the sides, does this mean my hair will take after his or am i going to go bald at a very early age?

It might be important, since genetic factors play a certain role. Hair line has a tendency towards recession during lifetime even in people with "good hair genetics", however adequate care might slow down this process.

Male pattern baldness is from genetics and varies for each person. The traces of hair loss from your dad means that it's in your genes, but does not mean how much hair you'll be losing. Knowing that you're a likely candidate, there's not much you can do to stop it, but there's plenty that you can do to slow it down. Watch the Dateline NBC video that I'm linking.
