considering myself exactly one of the guys you talk about, i thought i just give you my view on the topic. pain really doesnt bother me much. of course i try to avoid it, but if for instance someone else would think, i better dont do this, its going to hurt in the morning... i just shrug and go ahead...
anyway... freddel is right. toothache is among the worst pains one can have. but still i prefer a night or two of that to a visit to the dentist, who would do nothing worse than give me a shot in the mouth, and poke around in there for a while.
and with that we are already right at the core of the whole problem. to have someone poke around in my mouth... that is about the most uncomfortable thing i can think of. not because it hurts or anything... just because someone puts metal objects in your mouth and you cannot do anything against it until he decises to take them out again.
it is invasive... it is violating the sanctuary of my body... more than anything else i can imagine... i watched a surgeon shove an endoscope into my knee, and all i did was ask them to turn the monitor a bit so i could see the camera feed... but the mere thought of a dental mirror between my molars makes me shiver. maybe it is because it happens so close to the eyes... everything seems so big and threatening.
the point is i feel helpless, exposed... threatened.
sounds a bit stange if i put it to words... but that is exactly how it is.
i hope this gave you a little inside into a tough guys worst peeve... i got to go and brush my teeth now. ;)

I don't think men are afraid. it's just they are not as concerned about there teeth as women.. Men just don't care.

THEY ARENT SO TOUGH AFTER ALL.DENTAL PAIN IS WORSE THAN FIGHTING PAIN FOR MOST MEN.IN A FIGHT YOU DONT KNOW WHEN OR IF ITS GONNA HURT.YOU KNOW FOR SURE THE DENTIST IS GONNA HURT YOU!
