So, over two years ago, I dated this girl named Lauren. I was 24 and she was 21 at the time. I ended up falling head-over-heels for this girl, and for some reason, the past few weeks I've been constantly thinking about her. I used to think about her all the time, but I thought that I had finally moved on. Our relationship was phenomenal at the time. We had almost everything in common (music, movies, sports, etc.), but she ended up still having feelings for an ex-boyfriend. The feelings I can understand, but the fact that she went to visit him in jail was what bothered me. After I ended the relationship, we didn't talk for about 3 months. Finally, she called one day to appologize to me for what had happened, and explained that things didn't work out for her and her ex, and we decided to remain friends. We stayed friends, but about 3 months ago, I moved and lost contact with her. My question is this: What is going on to make me think about her now when I thought I was passed all this?

Is there something that makes us think about the past when we finally move on?

You just moved, so you're stressed. That intensifies the sensation of loneliness and makes it easy to obsess over somebody. You may even meet somebody new and find yourself suddenly getting all obssessed over her instead. Just accept that it happens.

Be strong. Unless the reasons for your break-up have really changed, you don't want her back so much as you want somebody to comfort you. Be careful, because you're in a vulnerable place.

It's been 5 years and, once in a while, I still find myself getting those old feelings for my last serious girlfriend, even though we can't even manage to be friends.

Hmm... friend if it was love you never get over it and from time to time you'll have these periods in which you think about her for no good reason, it has happened to me as well and believe me there is nothing you can do.

Oh and do try and get back in touch with her, usually these kinds of friends(girls with which you had a relationship but ended up being friends) are the ones you can trust(if it was mutual and if there is still love between you two then most likely it's a sort of brotherly love[the mechanics of which elude me but suffice to say she will be there when you need her])

Ofcourse it's not easy to forget especially if its a loved one. When someone dies, you cannot forget their presence easily as well but sooner or later you will move on, you just have to give it some time and think about other stuff and maybe just get involved in another relationship that would make you forget. It usually happens when someone else makes you forget the old ones
Good Luck!

Are you lonely right now? Sometimes when we feel alone we tend to think back to the times when we felt loved and safe. I know it sounds really Dr. Phil-ish...but I am in the same situation and know how it feels. Hey..cheer up, and remember, things can only get better!

Yep, I still dream of loves that I left or they left me, many many years ago. I have found that when I am feeling lonely or depressed, that these people come into mind. When I think of them now, I smile and remember the good things about him.

True love is what it is. You will never forget her but you need to know there is someone out there that will love you like that. I know, i am still not over my ex.

Throughout evolution, humans have evolved the function of memory.

The more vivid or enjoyable the experience is the more memorable it is.
