Hope this helps in answering you questions about the avocados.........It's always better to read the links and see what the experts say.

Below are excerpts from link above
You can probably guess that avocado is higher in fat than most fruit or vegetables—it tastes wonderful! But it does not have as many calories as you might suppose: 45 calories/ounce. When mashed up into “guacamole,” it is still 45 calories/ounce. Looked at another way, this is 22 calories/level tablespoon. Not bad!
Avocado contains mono-unsaturated fat, which generally is good for the arteries and the cholesterol, as well as bioflavinoids, which are antioxidants—also good for the arteries. As guacamole, avocado makes a very tasty spread, all by itself. Use it as a crowd pleaser at parties and as part of your own healthy diet. Squeezed avocado produces liquid oil at room temperature—proof that it is unsaturated fat.

Actually, compared with other vegetables, the avocado (a fruit) is extremely high in fat. About 80 percent of its calories come from fat. The good news is that most of that fat is the healthy, the same kind found in olive oil, with cholesterol-lowering properties.
Ideas to help would be to have an avocado instead of a salad with dressing.
Put some avocado slices into your sandwich instead of mayo.
The fat calories in avocados not only come in the form of good fat, they also come with other nutrients. Avocados are a good source of vitamins A, B1 (thiamine), B6 and E as well as folate, potassium and magnesium.
So eat up and leave the guilt behind!

They are good for you but bear in mind they are quite high in fat. Though this is good fat of the mon unsaturared kind that lowers cholesterol but if you are watching calories you need to bear that in mind. About 7-26% fat according to the source below (2nd link) depending on the variety.

as far as I can tell, avocados are outstanding food. here is a link that shows some nutrition info: http://www.avocadocentral.com/nutrition/
they have a lot of good fat. obviously you are going to need to eat some other foods, for instance to bring your protein intake up to at least match your fat intake. you may also want to supplement flax oil to get your omega-3 up to match your other fats.
california avocados differ from florida avocados

Oh no, avocadoes are unsaturated fats. But high in fat nevertheless. I gained six pounds in two weeks eating fresh avocadoes in Mexico. mmmmm! Love 'em.
