It is a simple procedure. First you have to use olive oil or some other likewise stuff to help loosen the wax and gunk a few days beforehand then the nurse puts a warm liquid solution in the earholes, leaves it there for a bit and then puts a syringe in there and sucks all the gunk out. I've had it done, it's totally painless and when I came out my hearing was as clear as a bell!! I was totally deaf in one ear before and suddenly I could hear everything so clearly it was kind of like having a new lease of life.

I wouldn't recommend ear syringing as I had that done around that age and it makes you really dizzy for days afterwards and leaves you feeling quite sick. There are lots of products that you can buy at your local chemist that come in liquid form IE a dropper , you put a couple of drops in the ears for several days and it loosens all the wax deep inside the ear and its not painful. You could also try using a medicine syringe and putting some baby oil in it and squirting a little into your ear then have a hot shower and rinse out your ear. This definitely helps as its been tried and tested.

When I was a child I had to have my ears syringed quite regularly. My hearing would slowly get worse until I had to have it done. The older I got the less frequent I required syringing, the last time I was 13 (I'm 29 now). It is a painless procedure but a little strange sensation wise. It is absolutely nothing to worry about.

My Granddad thinks having his ears syringed several years ago was the cause of his tinnitus - its never gone away and causes him alot of distress. I'd recommend trying to avoid syringing. It can take a long time to get rid of compacted wax with olive oil - but in my opinion, its often better.

Had it done loads of times, no problem!! the benefits are brilliant. I'm told they have new ways in this field now? better if she has used ear drops or olive oil prior to syringe, as it helps the removal. I have to have mine done apx every 3 yrs.

This is a common procedure, it clears out a build up of wax, which if left could affect her hearing and cause infections and discomfort.

It is basically just a wash out of the ear.

It will probably improve their hearing, and therefore concentration and grades at school.
